Alyssum plants are tender annuals and commonly known as 'little dorrit'. They are small and easy to grow from seeds, forming a low growing clumps in the garden. For this reason Alyssum are usually used as  border plants and also look really good growing in the nooks and crannies throughout the garden.

The series we have chosen - 'Wonderland' is a superb plant that we have grown for years, with all colours well matched for height and flowering time, and bearing a nice scent.

Variety: Alyssum 'Wonderland' Mixed

No. of Seeds: 750 seeds

Germination Temp: 15 - 18C

Ideal Plant Spacing: For this variety ideal plant spacing is 25cm apart.

Sow Seeds from: Mid March - Early June

Alyssum are easy to grow annuals. Flowers begin to appear just 4 weeks after sowing, however the plants often wilt in the mid-summer's heat, but perk back up and bloom again when cooler weather returns. Alyssum looks best mixed in at the front of other bedding plants, and most probably you will want them to grow in small groups, to enjoy their fragrance.

Propagation of Alyssum Seeds

Alyssum are easy to grow from seed.  Sow seeds on a good quality compost and cover lightly with compost. Germination of seeds is quick, usually around 5 days. Alyssum do not like the cold, harden them off and transplant them outdoors after the last frost date.

How to Grow Alyssum Plants

Alyssum plants prefer full to partial sun. They will do well in average soils and tolerate dry soil conditions, however should be  watered well during hot, dry periods. We recommend you add a slow release fertilizer when planting, for season long feeding. Once your plants are established,  they will grow well until the first frost, producing a continuous supply of sweet smelling flowers.

Likely Alyssum Problems

Insects do not really pose much of a problem. The main problem people tend to have with alyssum is 'damping off' at the germination stage, however a fungicide after sowing should have this covered.
