Propagation of Cosmos Seeds
Cosmos are grown from large seeds, making them easy to sow. They germinate quickly and from then on - never stop. Whilst cosmos seeds can be directly seeded into your garden, an early, indoor start, translates into an earlier, so we recommend starting indoors. Sow seeds on a good quality compost straight into pots and cover lightly with compost or vermiculite. Germination of seeds is usually around 5 - 7 days. Do not place the seedlings outside until after the last frost date your area as cosmos plants are susceptible to frost.
How to Grow Cosmos Plants
The plants will flower and bloom best in full sun. They will grow well in a pretty much any soil, however add a general purpose fertiliser before planting if the soil is poor. We recommend you add a slow release fertilizer when planting, for season long feeding. Cosmos will begin to flower in early summer - after each set of blooms, deadhead spent flowers to promote reblooming. They are best placed towards the back of the flower garden, and are tolerant dry soil conditions.
Likely Cosmos Problems
Not a lot really - just keep watered.
